Cambridge International AS & A Level Mathematics

9709 AS + A2

The Cambridge International A Level Mathematics syllabus (9709) is widely used in international schools worldwide. It covers Pure Mathematics (Papers 1 & 3), Probability & Statistics (Papers 5 & 6), and Mechanics (Papers 4). Exams are held in February/March, May/June, and October/November sessions each year.

Pearson Edexcel A Level Mathematics

9MA0 AS: 8MA0

The Edexcel A Level Mathematics specification covers Pure Mathematics (Papers 1 & 2), Statistics, and Mechanics. Exams are held in May/June each year. Edexcel is the most popular exam board in England.

OCR A Level Mathematics

H240 AS: H230

OCR offers two A Level Maths specifications: OCR A (H240) and OCR MEI (H640). Both cover Pure Mathematics, Statistics, and Mechanics but with different emphasis. MEI is often considered more applied and contextual.

Which Board Should I Use?

CIE (Cambridge 9709) — International schools, particularly in Asia, Middle East, and Africa.
Edexcel — Most popular in England; also offers an International A Level (IAL).
OCR / OCR MEI — Common in English schools; MEI has a more contextual approach.
AQA — Second largest board in England; similar structure to Edexcel.
